Dorothy will show you step by step how to design and build a sturdy structure, create templates for cutting your cake into the perfect shape,
sculpt techniques to achieve realistic animal details, and finish off covering in fondant.
You’ll learn painting skills to achieve a beautifully finished cake that you can take home at the end of class.

‘Workshop Agenda for 3 days’

Day 1:
On the first day participants will be detailing the design and structure of the cake. Discussing the design process and calculations for proportion and weight distribution on the structure. Dorothy Klerck will be demonstrating the building of her structure of the cake so that students can see the process. Attendees will be filling and then carving the cake, using our templates, to create the shape needed for the main part of the animal. Each participant will then be placing the cake on the structure and making sure that the cake is secured and covering the cake with chocolate to seal.
Day 2:
On the second day, we will be using the sculpting paste to sculpt the face, legs and other details to create our finished shape and design. This will be done step by step so that each student can create a recognizable animal. We’ll cover our base boards with chocolate to make a neat finish and prepare for covering of the cake with fondant.
Day 3:
On our final day, we will be covering the entire cake in a thin layer of fondant paste to create a smooth canvas for painting. We will be painting colors for shading and details such as eyes and face to bring our projects to life. We’ll be adding the final hair detail, eyelashes and dusting to complete each part of our cake.
Each participant will take their own project home.
